No Boil Lasagna

Lasagna gets a bit of a bad rap. There are those who love the classic Italian dish, but don't have the time to prepare it. Then, there are those who have had a bad lasagna experience or have just never given it a chance at all. Whatever the case may be, I'm here to give you a simple, straightforward lasagna recipe that will easily become one of your favorites. 

Stuff You Need

PREP - 30 mins                                         

COOK - 60 mins                              


  • 12 sheets Barilla oven ready lasagna 
  • 1/2 lb ground chuck beef
  • 1/2 lb italian sausage, no casing
  • 1 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp BASIC Blend
  • 36 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp FEISTY Seasoning
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded 
  • 2 cups parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (2 tbsp dried)
  • 2 eggs, beaten

salt + pepper, to taste



Preheat oven 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat a heavy bottom skillet over medium high heat, brown ground beef and italian sausage. Drain fat. Then add onions. garlic, and BASIC blend, saute for about 2 mins. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, and FEISTY seasoning. Let simmer for about 5-8 mins. Season to taste with salt + pepper. 

Meanwhile in a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 2 cups mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, basil, and eggs. Set aside. 

Combine remaining mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese in a separate bowl. Set aside.



In a greased 9x13 baking dish, do the following: add 1 cup meat sauce, top with 3 lasagna sheets, layer with a 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, add 1 cup meat sauce, sprinkle a thin layer of shredded cheese, top with lasagna sheets, REPEAT. 

You should finish with a layer of lasagna sheets topped with remaining meat sauce. 

Cover with foil, and bake in oven for about 45 mins.  Remove foil. Top with remaining shredded cheese, and bake for an additional 15-20 mins or until cheese is melted, slightly browned, and sides are bubbly. 

 Let rest for 10-15 mins before serving.


Recipe NOTEs:

Make Ahead Tip - after making lasagna for 45 mins, remove from oven let cool. then top with remaining cheese, and refrigerate overnight or wrap and freeze for up to 3-4 weeks. When ready to heat, sit lasagna out to thaw/room temp, and bake as normal.

One Pot Tip - brown meat in a oven safe skillet, such as cast iron, etc, finish 'STEP ONE' then remove meat sauce from pan, leaving 1 cup at the bottom of the pan. Proceed with the remaining steps, then layer lasagna in the skillet. You'll have less layers, so use a little more lasagna sheets, sauce, and cheese per layer. Bake as instructed.
